Hi Donald,

Just listened to your contribution on this episode of Moral Maze and subsequent discussion among the panel.

Excellent. You managed to get lots of points across under time pressure and carried many of the panelists with you. One described it as a good PR for Stoicism. Very clear and humourous too.

One panelist didn't seem convinced that it would be easy to practice Stoicism in the modern workplace. I disagree with that totally. In my experience Stoic practices have helped me immeasurably in my workplace environment.

And giving the straight answer to the straight question took them by surprise for sure.

Loved your idea of Socrates being teleported into the modern world and what his take on things would be!

I commented to you recently how I wish you and other experts in the field of modern Stoicism could appear on programmes like this one instead of other, less knowledgeable, people who for some reason get asked to talk about Stoicism and don't seem to hit the mark like you did on this show.

Hopefully more similar appearances to come!

Excellent article thank you for sharing Donald. When I read that Epictetus was telling his students they weren’t Socrates and should learn to take ownership for their own thoughts and feelings, I thought of what I had read in your book about ‘How to Live Like Socrates.” I believe it was in Chapter 5 where Socrates has just finished arguing with Protagoras that he believed Virtue could not be taught and by the time they finished the Dialogue Socrates admits that now he found himself arguing that virtue would appear to be the sort of thing that can be learned. Do you thing this is a good example of what Epictetus was talking about?
