Five Stoic Reminders Readers Shared This Week
A short collection of my recent Notes on anxiety, anger, and self-awareness.
I’ve been posting more on Substack Notes recently, where you can find short thoughts, quotes, and mini-essays on Stoicism, psychology, and self-improvement. Here are some of my favourite recent Notes.
1. Our ability to observe our own thoughts without being swept along by them is central to Stoicism.
2. Delaying, even just by counting to ten, can potentially be an effective technique. Some old-fashioned and simple techniques actually work better than fancy modern self-improvement teachings.
3. The Golden Verses of Pythagoras — something everyone should read. It’s a short text, and seems to have been important to the Stoics.
4. Half-truths can be more dangerous than flat out lies, especially the ones we tell ourselves.
5. Slow down, pause, and notice that thoughts are not facts.
